Ivory Silk Column Gown

£245

A floor-length column in ivory silk, cut to catch the light when you walk into a room and then fall quiet again.

Adding to the bag keeps you here. When you are ready, open your bag, write your details, and pay by cash or UPI.

The cloth, the cut, the room it lives in.

The Ivory Silk Column was the first gown hung on the rail for the Higher Church Street opening. It is cut on the bias through the skirt so the hem moves a half-step after you do, and the bodice is stayed with a soft silk crepe lining rather than stiff boning. The neckline sits just off the shoulder, which keeps the line modest without hiding the collarbone.

We chose ivory rather than optic white because Blackburn evenings, weddings and winter dinners all look kinder in a cloth that has a little warmth in it. The silk is dense enough to hold its shape at the waist and light enough that the gown does not feel like costume. A concealed zip runs down the left side. There is no train to manage in a taxi, and no beading to snag a handbag chain.

In the boutique it hangs beside the black coats so you can see how the same woman might wear both: the gown for the invitation, the coat for the street outside. If you would like the hem taken to your heel height, ask when you book a fitting. We keep a quiet worktable at the back of the shop for exactly that.
